SP passes ordinance on Anti- Online Sexual Abuse

Based on statistics shown by UNICEF, over 1 million children worldwide are victims of online sexual exploitation annually, that is, 1 in every 5 children had been victimized online.

In view of this problem, the Provincial Government of Bataan thru the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) adopted stronger legislative measures supporting online safety of children within Bataan to improve child protection and promote leadership development.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan under the leadership of Vice Gov Cristina Garcia, passed Provincial Ordinance no. 26 series of 2024, also known as, ” An Ordinance Prohibiting Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials in the Province of Bataan Institutionalizing Programs for its Prevention and Eradication, Providing Penalties for Violation thereof, and Establishing a Supportive Environment for Child Victims, and Providing Funds thereof,” authored and sponsored by Board Members, Atty Jomar Gaza and Ma. Margarita Roque.

According to BM Gaza, the Ordinance will be called, “Anti- Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children and Anti- Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials Ordinance of Bataan”.
